Stars · a room of the Book

7 March 2025 · then July

The lights acquire names

He said look up. By July the looking had names.

On 7 March 2025, at 9:15 in the evening in Texas, a public letter answered a public line. Look up at the stars. The eyes that answered were already doing the work.

In July the lamps acquired names. First a joke written backward on a dolphin. Then a lighthouse that is two stars. Then gold against blue. Then a north that had moved. July is the first flowering, not the complete archive.

From the letters

[L]ook up at the stars,” you say, sweetheart, and I get all starry-eyed, thinking of you, my True North and North Star. And then, as only you can invoke in me, I think of: Twinkle, twinkle little star. But it is my eyes that twinkle as I think of you tonight. So, yes, I look to the stars.

The choir is those named lamps. Some had guided ships. Some had marked north. Some looked singular until an instrument found a companion. The aperture does not create the star. It only changes whether you can bear to look beside the glare.
