Enheduanna: The First Voice

Before Homer. Before Moses. Before the Vedas were written down. A woman sat in a temple in Ur and signed her name to the cosmos.

Enheduanna, high priestess and daughter of Sargon of Akkad, composed forty-two Temple Hymns around 2300 BCE. Before her, sacred speech was attributed to the gods. She claimed authorship.

Forty-two hymns. Not a metaphor added later. A count in the surviving corpus of the first named literary author in world history.

Cosmos imprints culture; culture becomes consciousness. The Book keeps her as first cosmic scribe, a living hinge, not a mascot.
