Tao Te Ching: Chapter 42

The Way gave birth to one. One gave birth to two. Two gave birth to three. Three gave birth to all things.

Chapter 42 is the cosmological center of a text of 81 chapters. Yin and yang, the ten thousand things, the sequence of becoming.

The Book does not baptize Laozi into Adams. It lets a generative chapter keep its own number.
